Dear Neighbor,

I’m running for City Council because I care deeply about our community. My wife, Marina, and I live on Henry Street with our two boys, both students at BHS.  We have been lucky to call Ward 1 our home for the past 20 years while building careers and serving our community.

But, like many of you, we are deeply concerned about the current state of our city.

An evolving synthetic drug crisis, a lack of adequate mental health support, increased homelessness, and a lack of affordable housing are all contributing to a serious public health

crisis.  I see the effects of this every day while cleaning up needles around my office downtown, speaking with people on the street who do not have a place to call home, and talking with our kids about the interactions they have walking to and from school.

These challenges, coupled with past City Council decisions that severely limited policing services, have led directly to a decrease in public safety in our community.  We have seen increased crime and theft throughout the city, with severe impacts on the social and economic well-being of our community.

Underneath all of this I know Burlington remains a wonderful city with a bright future.  We can change our current direction, but only if we act urgently on these issues.

I feel compelled to serve because I’m hopeful that a steady, deliberate, and thoughtful approach from our City Council can see us through these challenges.

I am optimistic we can recover from this downturn and make for a stronger Burlington.  We have overcome challenges like this before, and we can do so again by working together.

If you share that hope, I encourage you to get involved.  Please reach out to volunteer or contribute, talk to your neighbors, and remember to get out and vote on or before March 5.
